Safety has several different meanings to people that walk and bike. To one person, "safety" may mean they feel more comfortable biking where motor vehicle volumes are low and no one is texting while driving. Another may think of safety in terms of street lighting at night, shorter pedestrian crosswalks, and level sidewalks without cracks. By understanding how safe people perceive they are in their own communities and why they feel that way, MnDOT is better able to anticipate and fulfill the needs of communities where they plan and complete projects.
